Whitetail Deer Are Fearless Eating Machines

(Clicking on photos will open large size view.)
Photos from our window view and outside deck show Whitetail deer have adapted to human presence so well that we now often refer to them as "Urban Whitetail."

Sometimes they browse 20 feet away from a person working in a yard. The fawns become so comfortable around us that they fail to run when we walk nearby, often with our dogs, and that can be a mistake.

We have 30 to 40 head of whitetail in the neighborhood which encompasses about a one-mile by two-mile rectangle. They bed down in our trees and eat them too. They are notorious for eating yard landscape shrubs and gardens left unguarded.
Life in rural Montana. You have to LOVE it!

They are beautiful though, and much better to see them than a factory, or apartment complex. I do dislike it when they run into my car, or eat my flowers. They have some explaining to do then LOL.

I had some in my yard. I use to love to watch them eat the apples off the tree. I had to keep a fence around the garden. They sure are beautiful.Any deer no matter where they are.

So beautiful...when we lived in Maine we always had deer grazing in the mornings and evenings.

But, here where we are now we are so ove run with mountain lions and bobcats that to see a dear out in the open is very rare.

The above predators, native to this land had been under control for years and years.

But, new ones were brought in and released. The re-introduction has been a little too successful as they have become a very dangerous element around here.

They have lost all fear of humans and have even attacked one of my house pets up on my front porch.

We loose so many fowl every year that it is incredible. The bobcats are no longer small.

We have some that are absolutely huge and very capable of easily dragging away a small child.

We have tried to get help from the local wild life people but they continue to ignore us.

We all know it's just a matter of time before a really tragedy occurs and a child is harmed or killed.

Oh I would love to wake up and see some deer out of my window. But, I don't expect it any time soon.

Happy weekend!!:-)))

Wow, Shinade! I do understand. Re-introduction of Wolves into Montana has caused similar problems with livestock and pets.

Though pretty animals, I do not like them being so unafraid of humans and wish they wouldn't eat things in the yard. People too are bad about feeding animals which keeps them coming back, which isn't good for them.

nice pictures

Whitetail deer are found across the North American region, at 29 million strong, including where cities are expanding. These areas intrude on what was once the whitetails domain. As deer become more and more exposed to this humane society, they become less afraid of humans. In these areas you can find deer walking right up to you, not spooked one bit, and coming into your yard to find whatever morsel of food they can find.
