This series of photos shows a late 19th century fireplace with mantle (located in a restored mansion). The construction details observable in the mantle just fascinate me.These detail shots are taken from the right side of the fireplace, which wrapped around the corner. You can see a vase that is not visible from the "front on" view.

That's stunning! I've been fascinated with old fireplaces and mantlepieces since I lived with a blue-tiled Victorian fireplace in the early 80s. They're so beautifully built! This one is gorgeous.
