This photo was taken during the Whitefish Winter Carnival, which, in the past, has featured a wonderful snow carving competition. The Winter Carnival takes place in February of each year and attracts visitors from far and near. (February 6, 7, and 8 in 2009) However, I don't see the snow carving competition on the schedule for 2009.
Whitefish is also the home of the Big Mountain Ski Resort (just recently renamed the "Whitefish Mountain Resort at Big Mountain")

We have visited 46 of the 48 continental states. We missed Montana and Idaho. Don't know how we managed to do that, but, after seeing your photos, I think we need to take another trip west! Thanks for sharing
